Attention Writers:
The Utarian, a bi-monthly citizen newsletter, is being assembled for its first issue at the end of November.  The editorial staff is seeking city-wide correspondents to help tell the story of life in Utarek and Mars.

As you settle into your new home, we've seeded our site with potential sources of inspiration for your news/stories.

We're looking for 100 - 200 word short stories of what you think our city will be like to live in.

If your story is selected, you will receive a fee MARSnext t-shirt and be featured in our newsletter.

As you submit, you can use your own name or a pen name as author.  Address your stories to: city@marsnext.com.  Only citizens can participate.

At right is a story we're already working on.

Site Launch:
MARSnext made its official launch on October 21, 2000.  The site and sales office, chat rooms and Inter-Urbyne mail system are up and running.  Initial interest and sales have gone well and the first wave of citizens are getting used to their new martian status.

Canal Accidents on Rise
Though no fatalities or major damage has occurred to date, the Parks Department is deeply concerned at the rash of boating accidents in the Canal Basins.

"It's these new aquapods", said one official, "they hover and skim at such speeds that there's just not enough room to navigate.  The new Model Z52 seems to be the biggest problem.  With speeds doubling that of its predecessor, the new Z52 seems completely at odds with the normal recreational boats, which roam in great numbers.

To further add to the problem, after-hour patrons from Kroton's Night Club have taken a disturbing number of "after-hours joy rides".

The Parks spokeman went on to say, "We're monitoring the situation closely and we may have to go back to the old, no-power, vehicles."

These incidents come at a time when the Parks Department is finalizing its plans to develop an island system in the Central Lake area.  The study had been postponed when a series of odd leakage areas began appearing at the perimeter waterways.

Reviews
TInitail Reviews have dubbed MARSnext "the pet rock of the new Millennium."  Rocks are a good foundation.  We'll take that.  Send us your comments and suggestions: city@marsnext.com.
